Why isn't there a Porsche version of the R8/Gallardo/Huracan? Porsche is higher than Audi, but lower than Lambo, right? So it would make sense to have something in between them. New Carrera GT, anyone?

Seat=Skoda

Bentley and Lambo are about the same level of prestige and expensiveness, but in different segments.

The 918 would make a great Lambo and/or Bugatti, especially since the Veyron is getting old and stale. Unless Lambo and Bugatti versions are in the pipeline, which I wouldn't doubt.

If Porsche wants to protect the 911 so much, why not just stop selling the Boxster/Cayman in Porsche dealers altogether? Yeah I know that Toyota helped them make the Boxster share parts with the 911 to reduce costs and increase sales, but now the Cayenne and Panamera have taken over that money-generating role. So the solution is to sell the Boxster platform as a VW and/or Audi; this would also be double the fun since the 924 is an Audi with a Porsche badge, so, why not make a Porsche with Audi badges? The Boxster-Cayman would make a great Audi TT or VW something while no longer being a threat to the fanboys that insist on Ralph Nader's favorite layout since they would no longer share showroom space.

The next A7 and Panamera will probably merge, and of course the Phaeton/A8/Continental. Or maybe all 5 will be the same car instead of two different ones! I'm surprised Bugatti didn't follow through with the Gallibier, because they could just make one out of a Panamera (the concept looked quite a bit like it!)

It's a long story

But the end result is that there will be a new Porsche model seated between the 911 GT2 RS and 918. Nobody know for sure where exactly it will be within that price spectrum. It could be $300K or more.

Rumor is that it will have a flat 8 engine.

They do have something that goes up against the R8, Gallardo etc...the 911 Turbo, Turbo S, GT3 and for even more bonkers GT2.

Kinja'd!!!

Though I would love to see a new Carrera GT that doesn't cost like a billion dollars like the 918. But I think hardcore Porsche people...are just that hardcore Porsche people and they want their 911 to go toe-to-toe with some of the world's best supercars. And so far Porsche has been doing a pretty good job of that.

At that price, it'll probably be an Aventador clone

Fair enough, and yeah I know the 911 will always be there, and it is good all-around, but it just seems like a missed opportunity to make a third car out of the R8 platform. Of course this would be in addition to the 911, not in place of it.

And yeah, a new Carrera GT would be awesome! It's just frustrating that they won't do it, especially since they have at least two platforms to make it on (Huracan and Aventador)

Haha probably

I hope it starts under $300K (at least before options) and competes with the mid engine V8 Ferraris.

But I read a rumor that they might make it cost more. That would suck because it would make it out of reach for almost everyone, even when buying used.

I think what it comes down to is that Porsche, despite its VW ownership, when it comes to sports cars wants to be a unique entity ..it's one thing to platform share with volume cars like the Panamera and the Cayenne.

That would be sweet! But i'll believe it when i see it.

If they can make it under 300k, at least base price, that would be great. But still, even if not, it's almost guaranteed to start lower than the Lambo. At least before options, that is!

As for used values, that would probably depend on the production levels, if they plan on limiting production or making as many as they can sell. If they only make a set number, then they'll actually cost more than used Aventadors, so at that point you just buy the cow instead of the horse.

I know... Porsche takes their sweet time on new sports cars.

SUVs - they come quick!

My fear is that they will limit production. Especially if it is based off the 918 as rumored.

They're even limiting production of the 991 GT3. I've talked to two local dealers who have already sold their 2014 allotment before the cars even came in. Each one only got 6 cars this year!

Yup, definitely an Aventador.

I hope it doesn't end up looking that sketch though.

I doubt it will be based off the 918, as the target price is far too low to allow for that. Most likely an Aventador. My hope is that it will be pretty much a RWD Aventador, and I wouldn't rule out its V12 ultimately being an option, either (most likely a few years after the initial 961 debut, though).

Yeah, production limits SUCK! But in the GT3's case, that's OK since Porsche makes dozens of limited editions anyway and they could very well roll out another one that's similar if not identical in terms of performance and anything else that matters.

We'll just have to keep guessing until they finally get this new car made!

I wish it would be a V12 but I kind of doubt it. Porsche is all about efficiency. They'll probably try to get a lot of power out of a V8 or flat 8 if it yields better MPG
